Sea Guardian FAQ

Still got questions you need answers to?

Our FAQ page will hopefully address any concerns you have, if you still have questions feel free to reach out to us through our contact or Facebook page:

Q1: What does the system do?

The Sea Guardian system is designed to prevent oxidization and galvanic reaction in aluminium boats. It also has demonstrated the following features:

  1.          Slow or stop existing corrosion from developing further or spreading
  2.          Prevent any new corrosion from forming
  3.          Prevent Galvanic reaction in aluminium boats (areas where dissimilar metals meet – usually aluminium and stainless steel)
  4.          Help protect Paintwork and stop it from bubbling, spidering, lifting or ‘flaking off’
  5.          Prevent Paintwork from Oxidizing (Oxidization of paint often leads to dull or powdery paint)

Q2: How much is the system?

Depending on the type of boat you have, we have different system recommendations. You can find your ideal system using one of the tables below:

Sea Guardian System

What It's Designed To Do:

  • Help protect paintwork and prevent it from bubbling, spidering, lifting or ‘flaking off’
  • Slow or stop existing corrosion from further developing or spreading
  • Help prevent new corrosion from forming
  • Help prevent galvanic reaction (areas where dissimilar metals meet usually aluminium and stainless steel)
  • Slow paint oxidization (oxidization of paint often leads to dull or powdery paint)

Q3: How does the system work?

The Sea Guardian system applies a negative static charge to the hull of the boat – as a negative charge is rich in electrons, its able to replace lost electrons in the alloy. This slows or prevents corrosion by lowering the alloy’s voltage potential and as a result, the alloy becomes less likely to corrode.

The technology for the system is ‘capacitive coupling’ and is similar to that found in car/4WD rust prevention, however, modified specifically for marine use.

Q4: Why would I be interested in a Sea Guardian System?

The Sea Guardian System has demonstrated the following benefits to alloy boat owners:

  1.          A one-time solution to corrosion in your alloy boat: No on-going maintenance
  2.          Reduced on-going cost: Our system is paid for once and guarantees at least 5 years of performance
  3.          Reduction in the amount of time spent on maintenance, repair and upkeep: No more time spent stripping back, etch-priming and painting.
  4.          Protection of Paintwork: Reducing the severity of paintwork bubbling, spidering, lifting, flaking or spreading.
  5.          Decreased paintwork Oxidation: Instead of paintwork being dull or powdery, our customers have reported their boats are ‘shiny’ and full of life.
  6.          Reduced concern when installing accessories or drilling holes in your boat
  7.          Reduced concern of stone-chips turning into corrosion
  8.          The ability to keep the boat you love
  9.          Reduced concern of boat housing and protection
  10.          Fast Results: Our customers noticed changes within a few months of having their system installed.

Q5: How do I get it installed?

You can install the system yourself following our easy step by step Installation Manual or take your boat to any professional such as an Auto Electrician, or boat repair facility.

Q6: What do I get when I purchase a Sea Guardian System?

In the Box:

Note – Each system will have a variable number of strip couplers, T-joiners & medi-swabs, dependent on the kit you purchase.

  •          1 x Sea Guardian Power Generator
  •          1 x Marine Grade Wire Reel
  •          1 x Fuse Pack
  •          Strip Couplers (will depend on system type)
  •          T-Joiners
  •          Medi-Swabs

Q7. What are the limitations of the system? What can't it do?

The Sea Guardian system has the following limitations:

  1.          Does not work on un-painted alloy boats
  2.          Does not work on fibreglass boats
  3.          Does not remove existing corrosion or ‘revert’ it back to initial state
  4.          Does not ‘stop’ corrosion entirely (More on this in section 4)
  5.          Does not prevent stray-current corrosion
  6.          Does not protect boat motor or propeller
  7.          Does not mean that you shouldn’t still wash down or take care of your boat

Q8. Is this system new? I've never heard of it before...

The Sea Guardian System was originally designed in 2014 and has been field tested over the last 4 years. The manufacturers behind the system, have been creating electronic corrosion prevention units for over 20 years and have extensive experience in the field.
